Control your tongue!

Control your tongue!

Words have Power! How many times have you said something to someone at home or work that was not so nice? As soon as the words left your lips, you wanted to reach out and grab them. I’ve done that more times than I care to admit, and it didn’t feel good. We have to watch what we say to people and stop throwing up all over them.

Here are four things to help:

  1. Stay calm and take a long, deep breath during a conflict. And no, loud, grunting sighs are not the same as breathing. Your body language speaks volumes so check that too and remember you are a professional.
  2. Be respectful and no cursing! Ranting and cursing is unprofessional, makes you look uneducated, and is a surefire way to escalate a conflict to a point of no return. Don’t go there.
  3. Ask for input in solving a challenging problem. Most people do not like conflict and would rather avoid the problem instead of working it through.
  4. Get an understanding. Is there really an issue, or just a perceived issue? Make sure you take a moment to understand all the facts and determine what the problem really is.

Positive thinking and speaking helps minimize conflict. Choose to think and speak life!
